// How can Twitter work for my Business?
After speaking with a number of my clients about social media marketing, I often get asked “how does Twitter actually work for business?”. To be fair, this is a pretty valid question to ask, as it can be hard to actually gage how Twitter will work for your business.
Majority of business owners are beginning to realise Twitter (and social media in general) is an excellent tool for business. However, not many of these people realise how social media can be utilised for business.
I came across an excellent example of using Twitter in business, so I thought I would deconstruct this clever social media campaign.
The campaign starts with a great video of some summer fun. First of all, note the timing…this campaign is being launched as the Northern Hemisphere summer comes to an end. Keeping this in mind we can see how people will have a strong emotional connection with the ‘summer fun’ imagery.
Towards the end we see “What do you want 5 more minutes of?”
Then…the kicker – “#5MORE”
The ‘#’ tag is becoming increasingly recognised (especially to their younger target market) and gives us the big ‘call to action’ to wrap things up. This is closely followed by the iconic Starbucks logo and a website address.
But how does this benefit Starbucks?
Well in a number of ways actually…
- Reinforcing their brand identity as young and fun loving
- Inviting you to follow them on Twitter
- Inviting you to share memories (establishing emotional connection)
- FREE ADVERTISING (through your social media feeds)
- Huge amount of photos with their products on social media feeds
The main benefit they are gaining here is good customer interaction and well…its INTERESTING! I found myself looking through the pictures interested to see what people best summer memories were. Nothing about this campaign has anything to do with them directly trying to sell products, it’s about branding!
Campaigns like this are a testament to why Starbucks has such a large social media following and will continue to be a market-leading brand.
